With the introduction of points members of the community have been able to pay money directly to deviantArt, an established company, in exchange for currency to use on the website. They're also able to do commissions for these points, request donations, and buy tangible items from the store. While I understand the act of purchasing points is a big money maker for deviantArt, I was wondering to what extent they could offer free points in exchange for community participation.
For instance, giving a critique could earn you 5 - 10 points per critique with an earning potential of 50 points a week. You could continue to critique after that if you wished but you would no longer be rewarded points for doing so. Keep in mind, there would have to be a word limit on the critique before you'd be eligible for the points. Yes, this could be abused by ranting critiques over nothing, but this could be circumvented by requiring that the critique be accepted by the artist before the points are given.
This could apply to other things to, not just critiques. You could earn points for participating in other community type activities with the over all earning limit being 50 points a week. This would allow members to gradually earn points while not bankrupting deviantArt.
So now for the comments. Is this a good enough idea for me to write up and post in the proper section, and if so what would you tweak about the idea? Credit will be given if there is any formal write up.
Questions to get you going:
What could earn you points?
How many points would each activity earn?
How many points should you be allowed to earn a week?
While in theory this shouldn't bankrupt deviantArt, what potential conflicts do you see occurring?
How could we correct said conflicts?
